ABOUT OUR CANDIDATES FOR MONTVILLE TOWNSHIP COMMITTEE
A lifelong resident of Montville Township, June Witty and her husband, Craig, have deep roots in our community. June’s 21 years of experience as the Montville Township High School nurse helped her to create lasting relationships with parents and administrators and informed her decisions as a member of the Montville Township Drug Awareness Council—Municipal Alliance, making her one of the most prominent voices in the local fight against the Opioid Epidemic. Since being sworn in as a member of the Montville Township Committee in 2017, June has fought tirelessly to make our local government more transparent. She has personally conducted “Coffee with a Committeewoman” townhall style get togethers to better know her constituents and represent all members of the Montville Township Committee on the dais. Her actions to combat Montville Township’s environmental issues have, likewise, been hands on and far-reaching—including river clean ups and the launch of the Trex Bench Program for recycling plastic bags. Outside of politics, June is also a dedicated volunteer with an impressive resume of activities, devoting her time to causes that include Strengthen Our Sisters, the Montville Women’s Club, Eleventh Hour Rescue, and Ladies Auxiliary American Legion Post 279.
Dr. Matt Kayne and his wife, Lori, were drawn to Montville Township in 1994 as the place to start their family by its open spaces, fair taxes, excellent schools, and the quick commute it afforded to Matt’s dental practice in Clifton. All three of their children are products of the Montville Township Public School system, which also provided Matt with his start in public service. After serving as an elected member, holding the offices of both Vice President and President during his tenure, of the Montville Township Board of Education for three, consecutive terms, Matt was sworn in to the Montville Township Committee in 2017. As a member of the Township Committee, Matt brings a thoughtful, fiscally prudent perspective attuned by his longstanding history of representing the taxpayer before public utility boards and government bodies. As the chair of the BOE’s negotiating committee and now a leading voice in the fight to hold JCP&L and AlticeUSA (Cablevision/Optimum) accountable to the public for recent service outages and poor customer care, Matt has proven his willingness to stand up for what’s right, and vows to continue to stand firm in defense of the taxpayer upon his re-election. Matt’s experience has already provided significant benefits to the public, both financially and environmentally. His fiscal acuity has contributed to an annual tax level below 2% and a secure AAA bond rating. As a member of the BOE, he also proposed the Direct Install program, which allowed for many electrical fixtures in most schools to be updated through grant funding, updated the district’s recycling program, and was a strong proponent for a county program that installed solar panels on the district’s largest buildings, saving taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars while improving energy efficiency.
Wherever you look in town, the impact of June and Matt’s activities are evident. They represent experienced leadership with proven results, and they need your support in this election cycle to secure thoughtful, conservative leadership for Montville Township!
Dr. Matthew Kayne
